The Sundarbans mangrove forest is not only home to the Bengal Tiger and Irrawaddy Dolphin, it is also Bangladesh’s first line of defense against cyclones and rising seas. Its dense mangroves act as natural barriers, absorbing storm surges and protecting millions of people living along the coast.
However, climate change and unsustainable development are eroding this resilience. SCOPE is working with local communities and partners to strengthen mangrove conservation, restore degraded areas, and ensure this living shield continues to protect both nature and people. The survival of the Sundarbans is directly tied to the survival of Bangladesh itself.
